PLACES TO SEE

Founded in 1856, Columbus originally developed near the Overland Trail, which followed the Platte River. However, by 1866, the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad transformed the community and the main business district to its present downtown location. Visit historic downtown Columbus to see one of Nebraska's largest continuous use business districts. Note the dates on the buildings. A total of 100 buildings constructed between the late 1800's and the mid 1900's make up this 31.43 acre historic district.
